This time of year always becomes an exciting time for football, as the weather begins to break and the season inches closer. With the start of Spring comes the start of many camps and 7-on-7 leagues around the country. Spring is a busy time and an essential time for football prospects determined to play at the next level. It is the time of year where you get the opportunity to showcase your individual abilities and talent at camps and combines before joining your team, come Summer and Fall. Despite the dead period being extended through the month of May for NCAA Division l programs, we are fortunate that notable camps, combines, and 7-on-7 leagues are moving forward as normal this year. Needless to say, these events are now much more essential given the extended dead period.
One player looking to capitalize on these spring events, including his astounding junior season from this past year, is Class of 2022 Madison Prep Academy QB Zeon Chriss out of Baton Rouge, LA. Currently ranked 31st-best QB in the class, the 6-2, 200 pound Chriss is looking forward to having a strong offseason before his final year at the helm for Madison Prep Academy. Coming off a the first state championship in school history, Chriss says the experience of, not only, the championship, but everything that has transpired over the past year, has been “amazing and humbling”.
In 2020, Chriss tallied over 2,000 yards with 40 total touchdowns while being named First Team All-District. Both the individual success and the team success over the past year has opened the eyes of Chriss and his teammates to their potential and the goal to repeat as state champions has been set. Add in the fact that Chriss was influential in the boy's basketball team winning a state championship, as well, speaks volumes to his overall athleticism and ability to lead.
Now, well into his offseason training, Chriss is looking forward to the busy Spring months. He will be traveling all over the country attending camps and playing 7-on-7. These camps and leagues provide Chriss the opportunity to compete head-to-head with some of the best athletes across the country and also provides him the opportunity to showcase why he belongs in the discussion as one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
His goal is to become more consistent, faster, and stronger as a result of his off-season training. Chriss has great accuracy with his ball, a strong arm, and the ability to extend plays with his feet, escape the pocket, and throw on the run. Chriss prides himself on his ability to lead his team and make those around him better. And, as always, he is looking forward to becoming even better at his craft.
Chriss currently holds 14 total offers, and maintains a 3.5 GPA. He is uncommitted at the moment, but he will definitely be someone to keep an eye on as the year progresses. More offers are sure to arrive for Chriss following strong performances at his off-season events and another strong year for Madison Prep Academy.
